Dogs are not perfect creatures, from time to time
they will do things that are undesirable behaviors.
Chewing,
barking, digging, begging and jumping are a few of the behavior
problems that dogs may have.
Most behavior problems occur in
the beginning of dog ownership and unfortunately many people do not
seek advice for dog behavior problems and one of two things happens - they either get rid of
their dog or they live with the bad behavior.
The good news is
that you don't have to do either of these two things. Using
the free advice here, you can easily fix your dog's behavior
problems and live happily with your dog.
Dog Chewing Behavior Problem Advice
Chewing is one of the most common behavior
problems that dogs have. Some dogs will chew whatever they can
get their paws on - shoes, books, furniture, rugs and even drywall.
There are a few different reasons why your dog chews and with every
reason comes with different advice to solve the problem.
If your dog only chews when you are not around, it
is likely that he suffers from Separation Anxiety. Like other
dog behavior problems, Separation Anxiety is easy to cure if you
know what to do. See the page devoted to Separation Anxiety
for help on this subject.
Is your dog is between five and six months old? If
he is, he's chewing on things because he is teething. When
dogs teethe, their gums hurt and chewing is just a way to soothe
them. Give your dog some special dog teething toys and ice
cubes to chew on. This should solve the problem.
Another reason why dogs chew is because they are
bored or they have high energy. If you are home and your dog
seems to be chewing a lot, make sure he has plenty of things to chew
on while keeping him away from things that he shouldn't chew.
Bones, rawhide chews, plastic toys and stuffed toys can all be given
to your dog for him to chew in place of your personal things.
Also, restrict your dog's access to your personal items. If he
can't find your shoes and he has a rawhide right in front of him, it
won't be a tough decision for him to decide what to chew on.
Advice for
Dog Barking Behavior Problems
Dogs are social creatures and can be very vocal
with barks, growls and whiny noises. First know that there is
no reason in your dog's mind why he shouldn't speak his mind and
bark whenever he wants. But there are certainly sometimes when
it is preferable for your dog to keep quiet. The best advice
to help this kind of dog behavior problem and to get control of the barking is to practice basic training
commands. It is very difficult for your dog to bark when he is
lying down or sitting, so put him into those commands when he begins
to bark at something.
If your dog barks a lot when you are not at home,
he probably has Separation Anxiety. Refer to the page about
Separation Anxiety for solutions.
Dog Digging Behavior Problems
Many dogs are natural diggers. In fact, the
name terrier comes from terra which means soil. The simplest
and best advice to keep your dog from digging is to not leave him
alone in your yard. If this is not a possibility for you,
consider why your dog digs. Maybe he is bored or maybe he has
Separation Anxiety because he is left alone in the yard. If
you think your dog is bored, make his outdoor time more exciting by
providing toys to play with or a Kong. If your dog might have
Separation Anxiety, refer to that page for more information.
Advice for Dog Begging Behavior
Dogs beg for a variety of reasons but no matter
why your dog begs, it can be agreed that a begging dog is a
